Heating Your Home: Why Woodstoves Aren’t the Answer
http://greenbuildingelements.com/2008/0 ... he-answer/

"...they heat only the air in the home, which can store very little of the heat. To compensate,
woodstove users – like most fireplace users – opt for a slower, cooler fire that yields a
modest amount of heat for longer. In doing this, they get less heat from their wood and
send the rest, as smoke, up the chimney."

It's those masonry heaters.

I know some people that are building them.

Let me say that I do not endorse masonry heaters.

I just liked the article about incomplete combustion,
and the fact that wood stoves usually run at these
relatively low operating temperatures. (hence smoke)
