This article in the new TIME is going to create an uproar among us
woodsmoke-knowledgeable ones! On page 57 of Time, July 5 issue
(at your news-stand now) is an article which (a) encourages meat
smokers as being "healthy eating," and (b) downplays any health
consequences of eating smoked meats. (it can cause stomach
cancer) Please see Burning Issues for references:

Smoked food and cancer
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3336

Only the first page of the article is online, as I send this (perhaps
they will put up the rest of it next week, as the new issue comes out?
If not, I will copy the article from my paperback magazine and post it.)

Obviously the author did not do his homework, or is a BBQ
industry shill. (Shill, Baby, Shill)

• The Surgeon General has determined that there is no safe level of exposure to ambient smoke!

• If you smell even a subtle odor of smoke, you are being exposed to poisonous and carcinogenic chemical compounds!

• Even a brief exposure to smoke raises blood pressure, (no matter what your state of health) and can cause blood clotting, stroke, or heart attack in vulnerable people. Even children experience elevated blood pressure when exposed to smoke!

• Since smoke drastically weakens the lungs' immune system, avoiding smoke is one of the best ways to prevent colds, flu, bronchitis, or risk of an even more serious respiratory illness, such as pneumonia or tuberculosis! Does your child have the flu? Chances are they have been exposed to ambient smoke!

Thanks to all of you who have sent letters to TIME.
I should have mentioned that the most likely letters to get
published are the short, concise, and to-the-point letters.

This is our chance to go into the bigger picture. TIME, as you
know, reaches millions of subscribers. Before this week is out,
I would like that all of us could get together and write one very
convincing letter, by putting our heads together and brainstorming
on this. But, as time is growing short (TIME is a weekly magazine)
I don't think this will happen.

For those who have yet to write, please download and read over
these studies about smoked foods and cancer. Our voices will
only be heard if we shout down the industry shills. We have got to
fight this tyranny of not only the stove industry, but also the giant
food industry. We must debunk these dubious claims of "healthy"
smoked foods. There is no such thing.
