Dear Ms Malanca,

Re: OUTDOOR WOOD FURNACE HEARING 7 PM WEDNESDAY JUNE 8TH NEW HARTFORD TOWN HALL

I am writing in support of a complete ban on outdoor wood furnaces.
Knowledge in this area is based first-hand on experiencing the harmful effects of wood smoke. http://www.cleanairtas.com
I live in a State that has the highest rates of asthma and non-skin cancer in Australia.
The world is learning that wood smoke is much more harmful than first recognised. http://www.cleanairtas.com/inwards/AAQ% ... ly2010.pdf
The World Health Organisation says there is no safe level of particle pollution.
We know that PM10’s can travel up to 100 Km and remain airborne for up to a day.
We know Pm2.5’s are the harmful fine particles that smoke is made up from and these can enter our lungs and stays there. They can travel up to a 1000Km and remain airborne for weeks.
We know that wood smoke causes cardio pulmonary, and cardio vascular diseases.
We know that vulnerable people (those with lung or heart conditions, babies, infants, and the elderly) can have their lives shortened, or die, as a result of, even small concentrations, of wood smoke.
Every effort must be made to prevent innocent people having to breathe other’s deliberate toxins.

Thank you for the opportunity to make this submission on what is probably the most important health subject.

Yours sincerely,
Clean air is one of our most precious resources, essential for our survival and quality of life.
