MONTEREY BAY 24580 Silver Cloud Court, Monterey, California 93940 Unified Air Pollution Control District PH: 831/647-9411 FAX 831/647-8501
serving Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Cruz counties

Monterey, California – October 12, 2012

At 10 am on October 16th, the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District will continue an incentive program for property owners in Monterey, Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties to upgrade their wood burning fireplaces or older uncertified wood stoves to a cleaner alternative. The purpose of the change-out program is to reduce emissions of residential wood smoke. In some areas, wood smoke degrades air quality to levels above health-based standards during the colder winter months when wood burning increases. Wood smoke contains particulate matter, gases, and even toxic compounds which can cause or aggravate health effects including eye, nose, and throat irritation and respiratory disease. The woodstove change-out program is part of the District's continuing effort to protect public health by reducing pollution in the air we breathe.
Available discounts range from $1,000 to $2,500 in SLV and $250 to $1,000 in all other areas. The discounts will be available until the $125,000 in program funding is exhausted. For additional information about the available discounts please visit:
Starting at 10 am on October 16th, property owners wishing to apply for the program can obtain a Reservation Number only by calling the District at 831-647-9411.
Reservation Numbers will not be issued before 10 am on October 16th or at the District office and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis, until program funds are exhausted.
At 10 am on October 16, Call: (831) 647-9411
