This is a full color slide show developed to introduce a general audience to the problems associated with particulate pollution. It has proven to be suitable for a wide range of audiences. It is not a polemic, all assertions are backed up by technical reports or scientific papers in our library. (See the bibliography).
While there are many sources
of PM10 in addition to residential wood burning (RWB) including
diesel exhaust and fugitive road dust, the primary focus is on
RWB.
Particulate pollution is
not an isolated problem. Forest preservation and health care costs
are involved as well as political orientation of government officials
and regulatory bodies.
Definition of the particulate
matter found dangerous. Basically it is particles about the size
of red blood cells or smaller and which are too small to be seen
or smelled. For instance, see wood smoke particle
surgically removed from women's lung.
